AGAVE CARBON COMPOSITE T. PATTERSON DEVIL FISH
2022 Icons of Foam Honoree
Timmy Patterson invited me to compete in the 2022 Icons of Foam Shape-Off competition. To show my appreciation for the invite, I decided to build a special T. Patterson Devil Fish.
This labor-intensive surfboard build started with a 1.9 lb. stringerless EPS, 6'0" Devil Fish cut. I finished shaping the board and laminated the bottom with carbon fiber and epoxy resin.
I then milled several agave flower stalks and hand-cut each individual piece to create a book-matched layout for the deck. Next, I vacuum-bag bonded the agave to the deck using 4 oz. fiberglass and epoxy resin.
After it cured, I leveled everything out and blended the agave into the rails. I then glassed the deck with a single layer of 4 oz. fiberglass.
This T. Patterson Devil Fish is a product of my experience as both a surfboard builder and aerospace composite technician, combining high-tech composite construction with natural materials.
