ALAN CLELAND JR WINS THE WSL 2024 US OPEN OF SURFING
Alan Cleland Jr. Makes History at the 2024 WSL US Open of Surfing
The beach erupted on Sunday, August 11th, as Alan Cleland Jr. clinched a thrilling victory in the final seconds of the 2024 WSL US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach. In a true buzzer-beater, Alan edged out Marco Mignot to become the first Mexican surfer ever to win the US Open.
Alan was riding a specially modified version of Italo Ferreira’s IF15 model – a board we’ve fine-tuned over time to match Alan’s unique surfing style and wave approach. This version features a thicker center for added buoyancy, while Timmy has significantly pinched the rails compared to the standard IF15, which typically has a flatter deck and fuller rail. Alan’s preference for engaging rail-to-rail surfing and staying tight in the pocket is what drove these adjustments. The reduction in rail volume has been the magic ingredient, and it certainly paid off in this event!
Alan’s winning board was a 5'8" x 18.60" x 2.50" with 28 liters of volume, with a round tail, and Alan always rides Futures fins – the same setup he uses on all his boards. We call it the IF15 Alan File.
